Both of Imran's grandparents had nine children each.
Mohammad Shamsuddin, his paternal grandfather (Dada), was a civil engineer from Hyderabad Deccan, India who earned his MS in hydraulic engineering from Brooklyn Institute of Technology (now NYU) in 1948. He was a very accomplished engineer who worked on many famous dams including Hoover Dam, Karnaphuli Dam (Bangladesh), Terbela, Warsak (Pakistan) and many many more. Mr. Shamsuddin and his beloved wife Zebunisa Begum had nine children. He was fiercely independent, disciplined and God fearing man who installed the importance of hard work and education in his offspring and future generations. The family moved with the projects and lived in many places including Hyderabad, Chittagong, Karachi and Peshawar. He was fortunate to have lived in Makkah and Medina for many years and thus, Imran got to spend a lot of time with him and his grandmother (Dadi) growing up.

Born in Lahore, Pakistan, Imran moved to Riyadh Saudi Arabia in 1974 with his parents and younger brother. He attended Pakistan International School from kindergarten to 5th grade. For 6th and 7th grade he was sent to boarding school in the United Kingdom at Hollingbury Court School in West Sussex.
For 8th and 9th grade, we returned back to Riyadh and attended Saudi American International School - Riyadh (SAIS-R). At SAIS, he participated in AYSO Soccer, little league baseball and earned Eagle Scout in the American Boy Scouts.
Imran is married to Aneela since August 1995 and they live in Katy, Texas (a suburb of Houston). They have four children: Daoud, Aleeze', Anushe' and Zermene.
Daoud lives in San Antonio and works for EY. He graduated from Texas A&M in 2017.
Aleeze' attends University of Texas, Dallas as a sophomore where she is majoring in Political World Economy.
Anushe' attends University of Texas, Dallas as a sophomore where she is majoring in marketing at the Jindal School of Management (JSOM).
Zermene' is a sophomore at Tompkins High School in Katy and keeps reminding her parents that they are not empty nesters yet.
